Hypotonic Solution

What happens to a plant and animal cell when it is placed in a hypotonic solution?  Explain why this happens.

  1. It will swell and then it will eventually burst in a animal cell and in a plant cell it will swell but not burst. This happens because more water is coming in than the solutes.

  2. Animal cell burst because the water over flows in it.
Plant cell swells because it has a water vocale to hold the water.
